WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

Fruitful arranges placements for SAWS participants on farms across the UK. The work is seasonal in nature. We place participants on a variety of fruit, vegetable and salad farms, the majority of this work is manual harvesting work.

Our clients vary greatly in size, and therefore the number of workers on site can very from only 2-3 workers right up to 300+ workers.

The work is physically demanding, but most of our participants have a very rewarding experience, enjoying the hard work (and the money they earn), whilst meeting and making new friends from different countries around the world.

Most of the placements are low skilled and can include the following type of work:

  • Planting crops
  • Picking crops (by hand)
  • Packing of crops (soft fruit, vegetables, salad)
  • Weeding, husbandry and pruning
  • Erecting poly tunnels (structure and plastic)
  • Irrigation work
  • Emptying peat bags and clearing work

At the end of your 6 months placement, you are not required to leave the UK but you must stop working for the employer, if you want to continue to work in the UK you will need to ensure that you adhere to the Accession (Immigation and Worker Authorisation) Regulations 2007. Further information can be found on the UKBA (UK Border Agency) website at www.bia.homeoffice.gov.uk/eucitizens/bulgarianandromaniannationals or by calling the helpline on 0114 207 4070

Under UK legislation your employer is required to treat you equally and fairly as well as provide you with a safe working environment and to pay you in accordance with the Agricultural Wages Order.
